Wow, I keep letting this get behind

Ok, so I just realized that the last post I put up was about the Washingtonienne, I bought her book, read it in 3 days, probably because it was content-free. Anyway. July 4th in Washington was great! I loved it, however, I do see why people who live here leave when that rolls around. Were I to be here on a semi-permanent basis, I would probably run Peachtree instead. I did miss doing that, I had calls from my friends telling me how they did starting at about 11 AM. Lauren came to visit me again, and we had fun. She stayed a little longer this time and we did the whole tourist thing more (but, I made her do the Smithsonians alone).

I went to NYC this past weekend to see Lauren and Emily. I had a total blast. I rode up with a friend, who I met here, who goes to Ole Miss. So of course, I picked his brain and went all against my mother and invited myself to stay with him a couple of weekends in the Fall. It's getting to be that time! I bought my football tickets yesterday, so the fever is getting higher pitched. I'm also reading a book on Alabama football called Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer (what a title, very original), at the recommendation of Stephen. I'm very impressed, and am having a little more respect for Bama (a little).

Not that much interesting is happening at work. I hope that all is well with everyone, and I'll try to update this a few more times this week!

Washingtonienne

wow, so friday was great. We did very little work, so was very fun! I was shared another blog, whose owner has since been fired from her job. Hers is very, very much more interesting than mine, Everybody should take a look at it, unless details of wild sex, prostitution, and other DC scandals offend you. Oh, and she's a republican. Nice! http://washingtoniennearchive.blogspot.com/ Take it easy. Have a great fourth, everybody!

Oh, if you want to borrow her book, let me know

Capitol Evacuation

Yesterday, (un)fortunately after I left work, the Capitol was evacuated. L called worried about me, but I was already on Metro going to dinner. Everything was safe apparently, a small plane entered the restricted air space, which causes evacuation. It was interesting listening to people's stories about 9-11 this AM when I got to work. Also, it's apparent that the Members are informed before their staffs. Bradley was watching C-SPAN, and when "Members run, you run." Good philosophy. Thank God nobody's hurt. But I'll bet that pilot has to have new pants.

Ok, I'M BUSY!!!!

Wow, it's been awhile. I know, I've heard it from EVERYBODY! A lot has happened, and I'll try to cover it all! And it will be in NO order!

I went to a briefing on dust, yes, dust. If you want more information on that, please e-mail me, or don't, either way, but it was an hour and a half on dust...CRAZY! (it was cool to go to a briefing though. I was super excited)

I got my intern challenge. I have to define, and find someone who has used the word "mook." If you know, please assist me. I have found a tentative definiation, but nobody who has used it. I'm not kidding, assistance would be wonderful!

We had a few "intern parties" a lot of fun was had, for details (you know, the ones that I haven't been sworn to secrecy on....what happens in DC, stays in DC....forewarning: I'll be politically vague)

Kate came up. She stayed awhile. We did a lot of fun things. She was a tourist while I was at work. Of course, we hung out and ate (and drank) after work a few times, and was just cool having someone from home to hang out with.

I went on a cruise with the family. Happy Birthday Granny and Aunt Connie! I had a blast! I'm ready for another, but you know what they say, what happens in the Bahammas stays there. Wow, I'm using that a good bit in the last month. hmmmm. Maybe I should start being good more....nah!

Sam came up! I was so excited to see her. I showed her and the other Watermelon Queens how to get to the Capitol with their Gallery Passes. We had dessert at the Hard Rock Cafe Monday Night. I also went to the WWII/Vietnam Memorials while waiting for them to get through with dinnner. I was skepticial about the WWII Memorial, but I was VERY impressed! I also walked all around the DAR buildings because I've been told that parts of The West Wing are filmed there, and y'all know how much I need to see all sorts of things from that show. 18th and Potomac, for instance. If you know what happened there, you get a prize! Yeah, I can give out prizes, I'm all about special treatment, I work for the government!

This is by no means all I've done in the past month, just the highlights. If I remember something that's pertinent, I'll try to include it in later posts, and try not to go a while between them again.

If you want more details about anything I mentioned, and aren't Granny, an Aunt, Uncle, or Parent, shoot me an e-mail.

Hope all is well with everyone. Have a great day (or month, as the case may be)

What a weekend!

This was a wonderful weekend! Lauren came up to visit me and I went to pick her up at the airport at 9 AM, we got a little lost, and eventually wound back up here. We did all the monuments in two days. National Archives, Capitol tour, T-Coast, all sorts of fun ness! We rode back around and looked at the monuments at night. We had a total blast. Monday I went with Matt (from work) to the Nationals game, vs the Braves. Braves LOST to the nationals. what's up with that? all in all, weekend was great!

Tuesday at work was great. Sorted papers that i started sorting friday, SHOULD get done tomorrow, if not, Thursday. Thank GOD! Eventually I'll get past the the 'bitch work' and do fun stuff! Don't have the front desk this week, so I don't have to get to work until 9!!! Yay! Looking forward to an extra half-hour of sleep. great night y'all.

Missing Georgia, but LOVING DC!!!

Random thought of the night: Is there a situation where there isn't a Sarah McLachlan song or Collective Soul song to get you through it? the answer: NO!!!

Run, Run, as fast as you can!

Today was a great day! Jim introduced an ammendment to a bill that is going to comittee today. 55 copies of the bill have to be somewhere in the capitol by 10. I had to get it there. at 9:45, bill wasn't ready. I had to RUN to get there, luckily, we had a placeholder, and everything was fine, but i did my evening run at 10 in the morning! Yay. Other than that, the day was uneventful, had lunch with Mike Lynch (friend from Athens) and that was great too, ate at Tortilla Coast, a local rest. Went home, in the rain and crashed. ready to do it all again tomorrow!

Weekend

Friday was uneventful at work, apparently, it's casual, since for the majority of the time, there are no votes on Fridays, so the Congressmen can go elsewhere. Gotta love that. I'll know for the next time. I went out to a country club Friday night. Was very interesting. Not really my thing, but fun, nevertheless. I may go back, I may branch out, who knows. I got back to the dorm around 2 AM and did the bed thing. Woke up around noon Saturday, did some things around campus and went shopping in Friendship Heights, kinda like downtown athens, but with chains. Was great. I came back home, and modeled what I bought for myself (j/k). Really, I ran the same route as the ohter day, Just not as fast.

Sunday, slept until about 10. Roommate moved in. Ate Burger King, booked my flight for the cruise (yay!) and am going running later! Good first weekend, gotta work harder on checking off things on that list!
